Tanooki found himself unwanted and in a high kill shelter in West Texas. As a puppy, he is good with other dogs, likely cats and kids. All dogs and puppies require supervision and training. 

A message from Tanooki’s foster mom:
Tanooki has adjusted to his foster home and family VERY quickly. He loves to be close to his people and snuggle up on the couch next to you, or in a fuzzy blanket. He is very affectionate! He loves his bed and will put himself there for naps or while playing with toys or given a special treat.

He knows basic commands (sit, lay down, come, down, off) and is currently learning stay and drop it. Tanookie is VERY receptive to learning new commands and he is so eager to please you and do what you ask! He responds extremely well to “no” and “yes”, as well as redirection with toys/appropriate behavior. He’s very treat motivated!

Tanookie is kennel trained and will go right in when given the command “kennel up” with a treat. He is also potty trained, and has come a long way with walking on a leash.

While he does great with other dogs, enjoys playing with them, and even likes to snuggle up and nap by them - he will likely do best as either an only dog or with an older dog that is very patient and can tolerate his persistent puppy behavior without correcting aggressively, and that can be monitored together at all times. Tanookie currently lives with a 1 year old St. Bernard that is extremely tolerant of him and hardly ever corrects him, so human intervention is regularly needed to redirect and remind him what appropriate play looks like.

Tanookie is truly one of the sweetest dogs! He’s affectionate, smart, and friendly towards everyone. He hardly ever makes a sound unless he’s playing tug of war or needs to go to the bathroom. He would make a great addition to nearly any family - his only request is that there are lots of treats and snuggles!
