I love my family very much, and they love me too. Unfortunately, I am not the best fit with their 5 year old child, so I am looking for a new forever home. I need a family without young children, and I need my family to be patient with me. I like to play tug, and I love Benebones, treats, and ice cubes. I am crate trained and house trained. I can be in my crate for a full work day if I have to be, but please make sure I get enough exercise before and after. I sleep in my crate overnight. I walk really well with a harness or a gentle leader, and I love to sniff.
I am VERY food motivated. I love kibble and treats. My family feeds me Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach food with salmon in it- yum! I also love having an ice cube made of pumpkin every day. I have been trained to sit, stay, lay down, come, spin, touch, shake, speak, leave it, wait, and to go to my crate. I can also file my front nails on a scratch board. I think this is lots of fun, but I don't like getting my nails trimmed. My trainer has been working with me on getting more comfortable with a nail clipper.
The rescue says I had a rough start in life, and I was brought to MN in a 5 day transport from Texas. When I arrived, I was very scared of loud noises, construction equipment, and big trucks. I love meeting new people, but I'm not always sure about having someone new pet me. I can be reactive when I am scared, especially to men. I have some I trust, but I don't trust all of them. I love watching my family on bikes, but I'm not sure about other people on bikes. I'm getting braver on garbage day, but it still isn't my favorite. Other things that scare me are nail trims, baths, and the vet.
The vet is really scary for me. My mom doesn't know what happened with my first vet because she couldn't go inside during covid. Once she could go inside, she realized I was very scared at that vet, and she switched me to a vet who specializes in fear-free care. My vet is very patient with me, but I am still working on being comfortable. My mom has taken me for many happy visits to the parking lot for treats, but I'm still not sure about going inside. My mom will take care of my annual vet exam and vaccinations in June so I am ready for my new family. If it's a rainy day, please dry my paws so I don't get yeast between my toes. That's itchy! Apoquel helps me avoid this and helps me have itch-free skin. I also really like having my flea and tick medicine orally (Nexguard). I'm not a fan of topical. My mom will send my remaining medication supply with me, along with some Benebones and my crate if needed.
